Dr. Sayed Amjad Hussain came to the United States in 1963 after graduating from Khyber Medical College in Peshawar, Pakistan. After receiving training in general surgery and cardiovascular surgery he returned to Pakistan in 1970 and served on the faculty of Khyber Medical College for three years. Currently he holds an emeritus professorship in cardio-thoracic surgery in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences and an emeritus professorship in humanities in the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Toledo. He is the first person to receive a dual faculty appointment in science and the humanities. For over 36 years he has been an op-ed columnist for the daily Toledo Blade and has written for other English and Urdu publications in the US and in Pakistan. Currently a vascular laboratory (at St Charles Mercy Hospital, Toledo) a Clinical Skills Center (at Khyber Medical College, Peshawar), a distinguished lectureship in Medical Humanities (at the University of Toledo), an endowed professorship in cardio-thoracic surgery (at the University of Toledo) and a visiting professorship between Khyber medical College, Peshawar and the University of Toledo bear his name. In 1998, in recognition of his services to the city of his birth, the citizens of Peshawar conferred on him the title of Baba-e-Peshawar (Father of the City)In 2020 the University of Toledo conferred on him an honorary doctorate (DSc) in recognition of his philanthropy and his services to the profession and the community.

After graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant from PMA and serving over 12 years in Pakistan Army took retirement at the rank of Major to pursue his passion in IT. He Moved to USA and worked for many fortune 100 IT companies. Presently he is working for GDIT. He also extends his volunteer services as IT consultation for non profit organizations and community in the states of Louisiana and Michigan. He owns a Michigan based IT company “The Computer Healer LLC” which provides IT consultation, hardware & software support for small business as well as home / student users in the area.

Dr. Farha Abbasi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Michigan State University and core faculty member of the Muslim Studies Program. She is from Pakistan and settled in the United States since 2000 with her three daughters.
Her areas of interest are cultural psychiatry and teaching medical students how to provide culturally appropriate care to Muslim patients. She is the founding director of the Annual Muslim Mental Health Conference. She is also the managing editor of the Journal of Muslim Mental Health and Director of the Muslim Mental Health Consortium, Michigan State University.
She currently chairs the Mental Health Task Force for the Mayor of Lansing, Michigan.
